    E-conomic versus Ostrich

As the newly appointed E-conomic Communications Director, I’ve been spending the last few weeks soaking up all sorts of things and no, I don’t mean early Christmas drinks!

Coming in as an outsider, as I have to the world of online accounting, has been quite a revelation. I’ve been meeting and learning from initiators and developers as well as talking to those clients who, from the start saw the writing on the wall, caught the cloud computing ball and are enthusiastically haring off with it into the distance.

What’s even more intriguing though is the deep and dark chasm between the converted and the unconverted. Between those who see the way forward as more and more cloud-based and those who don’t. Or won’t?

Interestingly, the converted, apart from the over-enthusiastic proselytizers are pretty laid back, whereas the determinedly non and have-no-intention-of-ever-being committed onliners are pretty fierce in their denial of any need to move forward, working to the tried and tested principle of if it ain’t broke and it’s working OK why change it? Does the emphasis of their nay saying smack a little of a head in the sand? Of course keeping eyes tight shut doesn’t ever make progress stand still – it does mean though that you don’t see it!

I’ll be musing more on this, but am really interested as to how you (presumably, converted or at least thinking about it?) perceive the chasm or indeed disagree that it’s there?
