    Conflict of interest?

    conflict-of-interestsA new online accounting service called “Crunch” was reviewed in AccountingWEB yesterday.  It offers a complete accounting service, based around their own online system, for £59.50/mth.  The system and service are backed up by an accounting firm in Brighton.  I felt compelled to comment and felt it worth putting on our own blog, as it’s relevant to the role that software providers play in the relationship between accountants and clients.   These are my thoughts…

    Using Saas to slash your operating costs

    Paul Garside of Symbiotic Projects, and a user of e-conomic, has written a compelling article about reducing operating costs by using SaaS for three of their key business processes. They use e-conomic for accounting and project costing, SimplyHR for human resources, and Xythos for  workflow and document management.

    Accounting principles – not for business people?

    Today I read a document published by another accounting provider (no name, no pack drill) that tries to teach the basics of double entry bookkeeping to business people.  It’s stated aim is to “help them get a clearer picture of their business as well as reduce common bookkeeping errors that can prove very costly if left unchecked”.

    What do accountants honestly think about online accounting?

    Most businesses turn to their accountant for advice about which accounting package to use and they often end up with Sage because it’s the most well known package amongst accountants in the UK.  While accountants generally can see the benefit of going online, for many practices it’s a case of “better the devil you know’.

    According to a story today on Accountancy Age ‘A new survey highlights concerns over IT upgrades ­ 90% of SAP software users from the UK, France and Spain questioned by Macro 4, admitted that they find performing upgrades a challenge.
